And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:18-19 RSV)
If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:15-20 RSV)
In the New Testament, the translated English word bind is from the original Greek word pronounced day-oh, meaning to tie or be bound. The translated English word loosen is from the Greek word pronounced loo-oh, meaning to break up or melt.
I have had an incredibly hard time writing on Binding and Loosing. I believe that what we speak here on earth has impact in the heavens. So when we pray and ask that someone be tied to Christ we are acting in faith. We are claiming them for salvation. What we need to understand is that when we pray and ask that a person be bound or actions in there life be bound to Christ is that we are sending Gods Spirit to go and knock at their door so to speak. God is not a respecter of persons and has given us freewill from the dawn of time. So when he knocks that person has the opportunity to allow him (Jesus) in their heart.
When it comes to loosing. Truly it is only God who can forgive but, when we forgive a trespass it opens the door for further work to be accomplished in a person's life. If we agree here on earth that a person is forgiven it has not only freed (loosed) us from a burden but, it relieves the sinner and looses them to come to Christ. They are no longer tied to us through our unforgiveness.
I also believe that loosing comes from Speaking the Word of God over people and to them. That our earth and it's peoples are loosed by speaking the word of God over it. Without the constant reminders of God has for us people can become bound or tied to what I call untruth. An example of Untruth in today's society is "Self First" the spiritual concept that we are "Gods" our selves.
Let me give you an example of Binding and Loosing. For years my mother prayed for me to come to Christ. When she was doing this she was binding me to Christ. At the same time she would pray for me. She asked for forgiveness for me. In effect loosing me from what was binding me to sin here on earth. Jesus was loosing when he cried out "Abba Father, Forgive them for they know not what they do". Many people today know not what they do. The word of God is not being shared with them.
So please if God shows you something in prayer that you recognize as a result of sin in a person's life. Ask that God tie that person to Him and forgive them. Ask that their faith, in everything be bound to him and become faith in him. Don't condemn that person. It is not our job. Our job is to bring forth the word of God over their lives.
